Rev. Thomas Kilgore Jr.: Best Person for the Job

The Rev. Thomas Kilgore Jr. (b. Feb. 20, 1913, Woodruff, SC — d. Feb. 4, 1998, Los Angeles, CA) was a significant figure in the Civil Rights Movement who helped organize the 1963 March on Washington. He held a longstanding friendship with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and the King family, a relationship that began during his freshman year at Morehouse College (A.B., 1935). A member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, Kilgore (Ψ 1933) also graduated from Union Theological Seminary (B.D., 1957), and conducted postgraduate work at Howard University’s School of Divinity
